ASM V2 33

Man, look at Ezekiel’s crazy feet. His crazy everything, really. He looks more like Beast from X-Men than a mostly regular guy. On the far better looking interior pages, Spider-Man is sizing up Morlun after the surprise attack last issue, and decides to see what he’s got.

Like that Letterman joke. Molrun tells Spider-Man has he no special desire to see him dead (“See? Already we have something in common.”), but that it’s necessary. He says that now that he’s found Spider-Man, he’ll always be able to find him no matter where he goes. That he doesn’t get tired and doesn’t give up, and eventually, Spider-Man will die. This makes our man very angry.

The master at work! Not getting anywhere, Spidey leaps up onto a wall to get a breather, but Morlun climbs up after him by digging into the concrete, showering debris on the people below. Spidey obviously can’t have that, so he swings away, trying to lure Morlun away from people. He alights on top of a high building several blocks away to consider his situation, but suddenly Morlun is on him again, impossibly fast. He tackles Spider-Man right off the roof, which Spidey protests will kill both of them.

Spider-Man dives back into Morlun, telling him no civilians can be hurt here, internally begging him to fall down, but instead, Morlun throws a car at him, forcing him to catch it to save the people around him. This gives Morlun a chance grab him and really pound the crap out of him. Spidey tears loose and runs again.

He steals some clothes off a clothes line, hearing Letterman on TV and estimating he’s been on the run for 3 hours. But, obviously, Morlun finds him immediately. Not too smart, there, Peter.

Unfortunately, that great left hook slings Morlun right into the restaurant’s kitchen, where ovens get smashed, and then Morlun lights a match. Spider-Man’s back is ripped up in the explosion as he barely gets out. And then Morlun walks out of the rubble, so Spidey bolts. De is inexplicably right there for Morlun to command him to get some fresh clothes. Morlun notes that something seems wrong about Spider-Man.

Ominous! We’ll see how this shakes out next time.
