If you were wondering why an issue of Ms. Marvel would get a whole post after the last 2 posts, well, the cover is your answer. In fact, Spider-Man’s such a big part of this that they use the ASM recap page, which is kind funny. And joining frequent visitor to the Spider-Office Brain Reed as one of this issue’s THREE pencilers is Mike McKone. We’re fully in Spider-Territory here. Rob Disalvo and Derec Donovan round out the line art team, while Chris Sotomayor colors the whole thing.

Is she holding Spider-Man up by the buttcheek? Are they ever gonna tell us who this villain is? Well, yes, we’re here for the date Spider-Man demanded after their adventure back in Ms. Marvel 34. Unnamed Bad Guy goes crashing to the street, where Spider-Man webs him up and Ms. Marvel breaks his jetpack. She asks Spidey if he really just leaves guys on the street like this, and he asks her what she does, and she says she does so little of this street level stuff she’s never figured it out. Our man asks why she wanted to meet, and she says it’s time for their date. They also discuss how, you know, she was dead for a minute.
I think that explains it better than the entire story I just read.
2010 and “the lady pays” is a wacky premise. Jeez, guys. At dinner, they continue to talk about Peter always being broke, and Carol says she wrote a book awhile back, and that’s allowed her to live comfortably ever since. How does THAT work? Who is she, Stephen King? Norman Osborn comes up, and Carol asks what the deal is between him and Peter. Peter is weirdly evasive about it, and then asks if Carol has her own Osborn, to which she replies it’s Mystique. She recalls when Mystique tried to get Rogue to kill her.
Why would you draw panel 1? Like, why?
This can’t end well for those jobbers. Or our heroes’ date, at which conversation has stalled out. They keep awkwardly starting and stopping. Peter jokes that when the Avengers are always telling him to shut up, she should tell them about this. Then Peter gets a danger buzz as the idiots attack.
Peter comically just keeps eating even a one of the two Cobra Commanders puts a gun to his head and threatens to kill him. Ms. Marvel swoops them both out of the restaurant.
Peter’s whole deal through this sequence was funnier than anything Brian Reed has done in a Spider-Man comic, easy. A discussion of where to go for a hot dog finally finds them something in common in a love of junk food.
Man, first we see an ASM where Peter thinks “I wonder what Black Cat is up to?” right before she makes her first appearance in years, and now we read a Ms. Marvel where someone makes her mention Mystique so the audience knows who that is right before she shows up. Great writing. I can only assume this book has had such a barrage of guest stars because it’s about to get cancelled and they were trying their best. They only make it to #50. But that’s further than any previous Ms. Marvel series so that’s pretty good. And with Marvel’s future policy of restarting at #1 every 2 weeks, it’s as long as Carol will ever headline a book, no matter how popular she gets, although she will make it to another series that ties this one at 50. Ok. After this 3-post run Ms. Marvel featuring various Avengers, we can now get back to Avengers comics featuring Ms. Marvel.
