If you were going to bet any of these covers would be false advertising, you’d probably guess this one. Funny. This month, we get started with a Victoria Hand origin story.
That dead-eyed Poser model ignores the other one and sent the letter, though, and one week later, she was in hot water. She gets transferred to the Portland office, and her girlfriend, who is never not wearing booty shorts, apparently, leaves her for it. That’s it for her origin story.
If you’re someone who pays any attention to the art in your comics (Which is to say, from what I have seen, not most comic book readers, writers or editors), you become deeply familiar with “Mike Deodato Woman Face.” All his women are him tracing the same model. There’s some variety in his men, primarily because he needs “regular guy,” “skinny guy,” “big guy,” etc. models. But all women in comics are the same, so he only needs one reference. And over the course of his decades of tracing that digital woman, I have come to absolutely loathe seeing her. Anyway, back in the plot, Osborn quickly learns Molecule Man is the only villain really there, because he’s made the others and everything around him with his powers. He starts trying his “let me help you” Sentry tactics.
Molecule Man says he won’t kill Osborn because more people would come, and he just wants to be left alone. Norman tells him if he leaves the country, they have no problems, but he doesn’t want to leave the country. And then he decides to show Norman he can do worse things than kill him.
Greg Horn is here to paint the… dream sequence or whatever.
Really never needed to see that.
When you’re right, you’re right! We pop back out to the real world to see Victoria Hand handling panicking HAMMER agents, then back to the fake world for Molecule Man tormenting the Sentry. Who is, of course, not dead. So Molecule Man blows him to bits, because he’s afraid of his power. Sentry has died 3 times in as many issues. This book is ridiculous.
We see the other team members getting similar treatment, one page each, as Owen’s imaginary villain friends give him the same “you’re going to fail” treatment he gave Norman. Then someone starts saying “Hello?”
Not the usual tactic. Well, I’m sure next month, Molecule Man kills the whole team and this book ends. Ya gotta admit, that would’ve been a genuine shock.
