Why not a Spider-Skrull vs. Skrullverine cover, I guess? Not exactly story-driven. This one opens on another 2-page splash, technically the 3rd in a row coming from last issue, as the battle begins. Iron Man tells everyone to focus on the queen.

Nick is more right than Norman.

Don’t worry, he shot the Hank Skrull rather than Spider-Man. Right through the eye. And so, a 2nd big time Marvel event features a giant man being killed. Iron Man flees the scene to go fix his armor, Bucky teams up with Black Widow (They have a history now, retroactively), and Reed Richards is swarmed by Skrulls who look like Sue, but Nick Fury’s Secret Warriors rescue him. The Hood and Wolverine are briefly fighting back-to-back, all past beef in this crowd is forgotten for the greater good at the moment. Even Howard the Duck is there! I seem to recall hearing Yu just loved Howard and kept sticking him in panels.

Yes, Jessica Jones leaves Baby Danielle in the care of Jarvis, not knowing he’s a Skrull. Seems odd he’s not out there brawlin’, but it is what it is. As she approaches the battle, so does a big streak of light, and it turns out to be Noh-Varr, landing like an explosion, saying he’s here in the name of the Kree Empire, the Skrulls’ oldest foes, to end this.

Kinda crazy how Bendis can slip that little moment in there for Luke and Jessica during all this chaos.

How has Wolverine been all over Veranke for most of this issue and not killed her? Not even hurt her? It’s kind of absurd.

Well, Jan starts growing huge, out of control, and emitting a purple energy, as Bendis is forced to show a flashback to the Hank Skrull giving her the “anniversary present” for anyone who didn’t read the original comic or the recent tie-in, and this time it’s Jan remembering that moment and understanding she’s in trouble.

Danielle in that last panel is hysterical. Laying it on SO THICK, and for what? It doesn’t amount to anything, she’s not a Skrull. Very bizarre.

It would appear Jan is a bomb now. Everyone’s in trouble! One issue to go! But first: Tie-ins.
