Did J. Scott Campbell bail on the 4th cover? Couldn’t handle 4 whole drawings in a row?? Sheesh. Instead, we get Humberto Ramos and his trademark deformed people in awkward poses. What is anyone doing, especially Nick Fury? Not since Ross Andru has a man been able to concoct such weird ways for people to stand. This month, we flash back to 11 years ago…

Suddenly, we’re today, back with the Roxxon Brain Trust, who are all talking over each other in what will become typical Bendis fashion about Julia Carpenter not being who she says she is, only they seem pretty ok with it, actually. She’s still not admitting to anything, tho, so it’s a good time to return to the past.

No fun being Ultimate Reed Richards. And back in the present…

Human Torch seemingly forgetting that Rick Jones teleports people and disappeared with his sister is kinda annoying. Nick start shooting Captain Marvel, who continues to plead his innocence even as he seems to be morphing again. Now it’s one year ago, the end of Ultimate Power, where the Supreme Power dorks want to arrest Reed and Nick Fury goes in his place. Rafa Sandoval kind of hilariously draws regular Wolverine instead of Ultimate Wolverine in this sequence, and that’s the most noteworthy thing about it. No new info is presented. I guess these pages are for people who didn’t read that event? Now that I think about it, that included me when this came out. I don’t remember my reaction to this. I wouldn’t have known what happened in Ultimate Power, but I can’t recall reading this and being super confused. Maybe I just assumed it was something in Ultimate FF I didn’t read. Anyway, back to the present.

Not good job security. Now it’s a flashback to Ultimatum, another thing I didn’t read when this came out, and this is a flashback to a tie-in I didn’t read, I think. Or maybe it’s a new scene, I don’t know.

It’s an interesting way to try to make a villain backstory for Reed. I’m not totally sure it lands for me, but it doesn’t not make sense.

Aw, say it ain’t so, Layla! Elsewhere, Fury and Johnny are ready to keep on torturing Captain Marvel as he tries to explain remembering Rick showing up saying he was there to save everyone, when Sue shows up.

To be continued in another miniseries! Definitely not the 9th issue of this single story! A whole new thing! By the same creators! Again!
