Well, everyone’s running in terror from the now flying fire man, and no one is more terrified than Liz.

Later that night, Johnny’s back in the Baxter Building, clearly upset, and Sue finds him angrily flipping through the TV. He says he won’t go back to that school, and she very compassionately wants to know what happened. Next day at school, Liz and MJ stand outside, Liz not wanting to go in knowing, what will happen. Under a sign that says “Tandy Bowen for school president” (That being Dagger of Cloak & Dagger), Flash yells, “I hear your boyfriend’s hot, and Liz is laughed at by a hallway full of people. Later, Johnny has arrived in a flashy car (Very on brand), and MJ & Peter find him in the parking lot, asking if Liz is around. MJ says she left at lunch, and Johnny finds out she’s getting crap because of him. MJ wants to know what his deal is.

Liz isn’t going, but MJ says Spider-Man should. Peter is very resistant to this idea, but MJ says Johnny’s in a bad way and could use a pep talk. As he continues to resist, she asks if he can only do good as Spider-Man by punching people, which really gets to the heart of things. She points out Johnny is a Spider-Man fan and it would make his day. Peter doesn’t know what he would even say, but MJ has ideas. Thus, at 5:17, at Andru Park (A nice reference), Spider-Man arrives, asking a shocked Johnny if everything is ok with him.

Of course there’s a “boom.” Spidey says he’ll see Johnny later and swings off, but Johnny is not letting this chance go by. He leaves his jacket on a pole, yelling for no one to steal his jacket, and flies off after our hero. Who arrives at a burning building. Classic superhero stuff. He’s saving people. A lady tells him she’s a babysitter as Johnny arrives, the baby of course still trapped in the building. Classic stuff. Johnny asks what he can do, and then an explosion almost gets Spider-Man.

Pretty fun little 2-parter. I completely forgot about this. An unconventional start to their friendship. Next issue: Still more stuff I don’t remember.
