75 cents! What a deal! I’ve said it before, but the possibilities opened up to letterers by desktop publishing in the late 90s were a gift and a curse. Look at that awful text treatment. 3 fonts for 4 words, and the most important one is barely legible due to being smashed and arranged vertically. Sheesh. Well, it’s still Todd DeZago & Mike Weiringo at the helm of Sensational, with guest inking this month by Rob Stull and colors by Gregory Wright and Mark Bernado. Who was an editor in this office for awhile, but I didn’t know he colored.
90s comic book writers and rappers alike really need to be told an interlude is, by definition, not something that can start your story or album.
Well, this sure doesn’t seem like it should be a Spider-Man comic! Speaking of whom, he’s headed home after a night of superheroing, but finds the little girl next door staring at his house, as seen back in Sensational 18, and has to sneak in through the attic instead of his bedroom window. The attic, where he hasn’t been since…
Sad times for Peter. Less so for me. As he rummages for some clothes so he doesn’t run into Anna in his Spider-Suit, he comes across a box of his old comics, the ones Aunt May said she threw out in the “Flashback” issue. Seemingly for no reason. Then he goes to bed, and tells MJ the little girl is staring and it’s kinda creepy. Meanwhile, some goons at the Technomancer place, open the door to that portal room or whatever and get attacked by beasties. Oops! You gotta figure that’s a constant danger workin’ for evil wizards. The next day, Peter’s at The Bugle and runs into Billy, his wannabe sidekick in this title I forgot about in the time since last we saw 1997.
Peter feels bad, as he really is meeting MJ & Jill for lunch, but feels he should’ve invited Billy. As he walks off with the girls, he gets a weird feeling, not Spider Sense, but like something is calling to him, and we see the sky swirling and pink overhead. Seems bad. Then it turns out the great new coffee spot Jill wants to show them is The Daily Grind, which halts the Parkers in their tracks. Meanwhile…
Alrighty. Back at Technotown, the guy being all excited about his sphere is interrupted by a goon with a goblin growing out of his head bursting in and saying something is here. Ok! Back in the city, The Parkers & Jill go into The Daily Grind, where Jill is surprised to see they’re a known commodity.
I guess it’s nice of them to try to keep these characters in the book instead of dropping them, but I’m tno sure how long that’ll stick. Meanwhile, Technoworld is overrun by goblins or whatever, and their boss…
Another completely unreadable font. Good times.
Uh-oh.
Well, we’re off. Seems inevitable that Strange would get involved. This is more a villain plot for him in the first place. We’ll see where this takes us next post.
