Who knows what’s meant to be happening on this cover? Maybe the inside will explain it, but comics covers are supposed to make you want to see what’s happening in the book, not leave you confused about what’s happening on the cover. Kulan Gath is calling Venom to him, thinking, “His evil is so pure, we compliment each other,” which… doesn’t really feel like a description of Venom. Even at his worst, he’s motivated by his weird sense of justice. He’s not Carnage. But Venom resists when he arrives, so Gath starts magically pulling him apart or something.

Really leaning on the LOTR thing, Oeming. Well, last issue, Sonja said she was going to go find allies. And I guess I was expecting way too much, because she’s outside the prison with just some random dudes, who she says “refuse to kneel to evil.” She gives them a sword & sorcery pep talk and then they charge.

Guys, I am not enjoying this comic. I sure did buy the whole thing, tho. I can’t imagine I was too jazzed about it in 2007, either. Weird not to remember. Well, elsewhere, Venom is fighting Gath, but he hurts Gath enough to get blood on him, and blood “is Gath’s power,” whatever that means, so he can now easily separate Eddie from the suit, and does, leaving Eddie to fall to his death. Almost.

I just read this page 3 times and I don’t understand what’s happening in panel 5. Well, Vermin attacks then, on a his giant rat. He looks like a He-Man character, which is fitting. Robbie uses the confusion to lead people out of the prison as Spidey and Red fight. Sonja severs the chains on the rat’s armor, causing Vermin to lose control. The big rat falls on Spider-Man, and Sonja stabs it in the face for it. Your fault, Red!

Extremely funny that this issue with that speech came out alongside One More Day part 3. But there’s no rest for the wicked, so now our heroes are randomly attacked by D&D versions of Hobgoblin, Scorpion and the Lizard. Why Hobgoblin and not Green Goblin? Hobby isn’t even active anymore. But that’s the Spider-Man/Red Sonja cliffhanger for this issue. The 2nd cliffhanger is…

Again, that has really never been how the symbiote has been portrayed, but who really cares? 2 more issues of this.
