Look at neither of those hands actually touching anything. Great stuff. This wretched issue opens in Latverise, where some people are talking about a curfew, and then Spider-Man pops out of a bush saying the “hiding from the general public part” just got real easy. What?

Yeah, Spider-Man’s just breaking into Doom’s castle with 2 people in ancient Iron Man armors out of nowhere. He disables a bunch of security, and then the old Iron Mans rejoin him inside.

Why yes, it’s one of the most infamous and reviled bits of this infamously hated event, Aunt May and Mary Jane piloting Iron Man suits. And they’re stealing Dr. Doom’s time platform. To what end?

I only ran this page because Back to the Future explicitly did not follow any of the time travel rules Spider-Man rattled off there. They have traveled back to the day Peter’s parents left and never came back. To the moment, even. So Peter can chase them out into the street, begging them not to leave, before breaking down weeping in the street, like he didn’t just tell the others no one can see them and they can’t change anything. Reggie Hudlid is one of the worst comic book writers of all time. Aunt May has just been chilling on the couch, and after MJ retrieves Peter from his street cry, they leave. That was for sure worth breaking into Castle Doom for. As they reappear in the present, they’re surrounded by Doombots, which Spidey leaps into action against, but he has one of his episodes and is immediately about to die. This was a GREAT idea.

As of this post, this blog has looked at 1,896 comics, one children’s read-along book, one novel and one video game, and I think this is quickly making a case for being the worst thing I’ve ever seen. Next, Spider-Man is returning the Iron Man suits to Tony, who asks what he plans to do next. He says he’s considered going to Vega. Then, because this event is pointlessly long and every issue so far has seemed to include some kind of filler, Peter has a 2-page imaginary sequence about using his Spider Sense to win at cards, only for the Wrecking Crew to attack his imagined casino and force him into action, so he decides not to go. Totally worthless. Tony says he’s got the perfect idea, but we cut to Morlun, who says the time has come for him to feast. He waltzes into Avengers Tower, seemingly invisible to everyone there, but his prey isn’t in at the moment. We saw the cover, we know where he is.

If yer gonna recycle that panel over and over, maybe draw it well the first time! Look at MJ’s eyes! But speaking of recycling…

Pat Lee or whoever he’s conned into drawing this DOESN’T recycle all the background detail from the cover for essentially the same shot! Why not? Work smarter!

Really not honoring your $2.99 this month. This issue was terrible. Legendarily terrible and lived up to the legend. This was only part 5 of 6 and I’m ready to be done with this stupid thing. I’m getting the distinct impression nothing of any import happens before the final 3 issues, and that’s absurd.
