That’s a lotta sand hands. To kick things off this month, Aunt May is picked up by Black Widow for her own safety, but understandably, she just wants to know where her nephew is. Meanwhile, SHIELD digs out of the wreckage of their home, starting with this baffling 2-page spread:

Why on Earth would you make those 3 panels a 2-page spread??? Unbelievable. Really taking the audience’s money for granted.

All they took was Peter Parker!

Peter wakes up and that idiot Kraven powers up and punches him in the face. A real winner, that guy. Doc Ock picks him up and smashes him head-first into a wall to get him to power down, and Osborn warns him he’s the weak link around here. He is that!

So that’s the bit. The final member of the Sinister Six is Peter, whether he likes it or not. Which is… not too satisfying, really, because you know he’s not going to embrace this and become a villain, and so there is no “Ultimate Six,” and yet that is the name of the book. Meanwhile, May is really giving it to the low level SHIELD folks managing her for not letting her see Peter. She doesn’t understand what’s going on and doesn’t much care if they won’t bring him to her. She’s great, but they keep giving her the runaround. Meanwhile, Fury is taking stock of things. They have agents watching MJ, and he wants them doubled. They have agents looking at various Osborn facilities. Then Fury gets agitated by Captain America standing there watching him.

Well that only took four and a half issues. Norman calls the White House again, and when he finds out they didn’t get the $100 million in cash Norman asked for (????), the lights trip and Electro starts zapping around the Oval Office.

Doesn’t even get to wear his mask. None of the villains are in costume. I mean this is not a thrilling Spider-Man adventure. The Sinister Five And Hostage begin marching toward the White House when the Helicarrier and the Ultimates show up.

A comic theoretically about Spider-Man and the Ultimates fighting the Sinister Six (A group the Ultimates should be able to stomp out easily) where there’s only five of them and the combatants don’t meet until the final issue. You just can’t do an event like this. It’s gotta be highs and lows, 5 issues of buildup just doesn’t cut it.
