ASM 566

Kinda fun having Jimenez call back to his cover that kicked off this whole era. Will Unnamed Kraven Child 3 get a moniker this time? Who knows? This month, Phil Jimenez only does breakdowns, with finishes by Mark Pennington, and Jeromy Cox joins Chris Chuckry on colors. Seems like a scheduling issue hit. We open on Unnamed Kraven Child 3 holding Vin by his chains as he narrates about how he always thought he’d die young, but not like this. He tries to tell her he’s not Spider-Man, but she’s unconvinced as she throws him across the room.

While Vin is getting beaten up for being Spider-Man’s roommate, Peter is in their apartment, certain something is wrong because Vin’s not home. He decides to go swing around and try to look for him, but discovers his suit missing. This sends him down the pretty reasonable path of thinking Vin found it snooping in his room, and is on his way with a bunch of cops to arrest him. So he thinks he’s got to get out of the house. So, soon, our hero is outside the window of Nelson, Blake and Murdock, and he’s looked better.

Very short index finger on Peter in that last panel. Someone could’ve made something out of DD and Matt Murdock being seen out at the same time, but I don’t think they did.

Unnamed Kraven Child 3 is about to pump Vin full of morphine and MGH to get him back in fighting shape, she says, when Vermin shows up. Of course. Vermin calls her an intruder in his home. I guess they’re in the sewer? I wasn’t really sure til now. So Vermin and Unnamed Kraven Child 3 are about to fight. I don’t get why. And the Amazing Daredevil has just arrived at the police precinct.

That bit about the FEAST center is sure to come back eventually.

What luck! I wasn’t sure how Peter could possibly find out what’s going on, but I guess this will do it. In the sewer, Vin is suffering from the MGH, which it didn’t seem like Unnamed Kraven Child 3 had a chance to actually shoot him up with, and then he rips free of his chains. His captor is still busy fighting Vermin, so he starts trying to escape. Why would she shoot Spider-Man up with MGH? I don’t get it.

Oo la la. Round about then, the Amazing Daredevil arrives at Pier 17, and is immediately attacked by Vermin. Pete thinks to himself that Vermin almost killed him once, “right after Mary Jane and I moved in together,” to remind you all your old comics totally happened, dude! They fight for a couple of pages, and Darepeter notes that Vermin is already pretty beat up, and that he’s still barely holding his own against him. Since when is Vermin so tough?

Since when is Vermin so dangerous!? It’s just Vermin! Well, next time, Spider-Vin and Darepeter will have to wrap all this up. Will the villain finally get a name? I’m really starting to wonder…
