We get started this month with a tense 3-page segment of a lady exercising on the phone when Dr. Octopus breaks into her house and slowly starts coming toward her room before turning to a full page splash of Kong’s head telling Flash Peter is Spider-Man.
Instead of talking to Peter about it, Flash convinces Kong to go kick the crap out of him like they used to. Peter senses it coming, of course, but has no choice but to take it. Peter makes a show of being hurt and shocked as people laugh and Liz calls them idiots.
NOT your daddy’s Gwen Stacy. But that’s Gwen Stacy’s daddy investigating the scene of what appears to have been the murder of that woman from the beginning of the issue. The school principal couldn’t get Gwen’s mom, but her dad is obviously busy. He suggests they keep Gwen in school until someone can go get her, but the principal is fixated on sending her home, which Goerge points out would leave her home alone and able to get into more trouble before he’s hung up on. Then Ben Urich stops him for info on this incident, but he gets nowhere. Elsewhere, a purse snatcher is running down the street with, unsurprisingly, a purse, when it is webbed out of his hand.
This leads us into the Bugle, where Urich brings everyone up to speed. The previous renter in that dead woman’s house was Otto Octavius. He reminds everyone who that is, and when JJJ says he died in the Osborn explosion, Ben reminds him Otto did not die, and Ben had a tip on the facility he was being held in. Ben’s source now says Otto broke out, killing several people in the process. He’s working hard to get JJJ to let him follow this one.
This Ock is looking like a tough customer. You might think we’re headed for a showdown next issue, but you’d be surprised…
