Venom 3

Posted on July 25, 2023February 28, 2022 by spiderdewey

Same team at work going into part 3, which opens with The Jury putting a beating on Venom on the opening splash.

Screech. Like Saved by the Bell. I do like them integrating Venom’s first totally hypocritical murder in ASM 315 into this tho. His rah rah about never harming innocents even as he leaves a trail of bodies guilty of nothing more than getting in his way is one of his most irritating qualities as they steer him more and more into the realm of anti-hero. Venom starts running circles around these dinks, musing that in another life, he might’ve been friends with a such a driven man as Taylor. We have a quick look at that guy Treece surveying the damage to his office, glad Venom didn’t learn “the true purpose” of their park project, and then it’s over to Spider-Man.

The Jury catch up to Venom, using the flying discs on their feet that I believe we saw in Arachnis Project (I’m sure not gonna bother to look). Venom gets some licks in, but is soon smashed into the back of a semi truck and shot up with various lasers and whatnot.

Venom disappears, using his camouflage to blend into the environment like The Predator, then hiding til The Jury fly away. A gag he should really use more often if he has it. Meanwhile, Spider-Man’s about to get Eddie Brock’s backstory into print for the first time.

“–know your enemy” is the rest of Spider-Man’s thought. He thinks he’s getting to know Eddie maybe too well, starting to feel sorry for him. Cut to Treece deciding he’ll need to take more serious measures to get rid of Venom, then it’s off to Eddie coming out of hiding. But he’s spotted by that van from before, or maybe one of several vans by the sound of things, and its driver tosses a high tech grenade at him.

Venom smashes the guy’s gun, then tells him his compassion has bought him his life. But then Guardsman is on him, punching and zapping and such… until a helicopter flies in and blows him up. Venom is as shocked as anyone. The chopper belongs to Treece. Venom is invited aboard, where Treece, via video conference, tells him he’d rather have Venom with him than against him, and offers to make him head of security at his company. Venom asks if that covers the park project, and then agrees.

Drake finally gets involved. You knew he would be, between Archanis Project and him being the villain of the first Venom movie. Michelinie really seemed to love this guy. What does he mean about Venom’s children? Oh, you’ll see on the cover of next issue.
