USM 129-133, Ultimatum 1-5, Spider-Man: Requiem 1-2. Another one kind of like Civil War and Secret Wars, where Spider-Man’s role is relatively small, which lets me focus on some more specific stuff as opposed to the main conflict. Which involved Magneto moving the Earth’s magnetic poles because someone killed the Scarlet Witch, I guess? I didn’t read Ultimates 3. So New York floods, and a whole bunch of Ultimate versions of heroes are killed, with more dying in the chaos to follow. As various heroes confront Magneto in his flying fortress, Spider-Man swings around a drowned city trying to help as many people as possible. He runs afoul of the Hulk, set off by Bruce Banner almost drowning, and convinces Hulk to help him help people. But then all the demons held prisoner in Dr. Strange’s house get loose, the house explodes, and Spider-Man is lost and presumed dead. Before all that, Aunt May got arrested for aiding and abetting Spider-Man, but she was in the police precinct when the world blew up, and the cops get interested in other things. Spider-Woman, the female clone of Peter she doesn’t know about, finds her, and May demands she go find him. He was on a train into the city with Gwen, MJ, Kitty and Kong as things popped off, and they wind up on a random roof, soaked but alive. Kitty goes to try to find Peter, and meets Spider-Woman as they search for him. After Wolverine and Magneto kill each other, J. Jonah Jameson writes an obituary for Spider-Man. After witnessing his heroism from inside the submerged Daily Bugle, he realizes all the trash he’s talked about Spider-Man for paper sales was wrong. the remaining heroes find Spider-Man in the rubble, unconscious but alive. Everybody had fun in this one! I really like this drawing, though. Feel like the more narrow focus let it be a lot tighter than usual, compositionally. I think I was doing a pretty good job of meshing my style and Immonen’s before I went to Charlotte. Magneto and the heroes up top were all I had left, and I think they’re worse than the rest of it. But, hey, what can you do?
