Looks bad! We open on a big, crazy 2-page splash of the magic tornado, Immonen once again going all out. Then, zooming in a little…

Looks bad also! In a sequence that continues silently, the enraged Hulk chases Spider-Woman through the streets, our heroine repeatedly barley avoiding being smashed to paste in a truly amazing action sequence, until some lights shine on Hulk.

Come on, guys, you know better.

No one to blame but themselves for that one. The other choppers fly away, and Spider-Woman has used the distraction to hide. Hulk leaps away, and, after gathering herself, Spider-Woman heads to the ruins of Strange’s house to search for Peter. She is soon not alone.

Ok, I get that Bendis has committed to the bit and decided this issue should be silent, but this was a bad idea. This meeting needs a lot more than Spider-Woman pointing at her face. Don’t get me wrong, Immomen is working it as well as anyone could, but this is a very strange event in Kitty’s life, and it deserves dialogue. Well, the heroines swing into action, gathering stranded people from various locations on a rooftop, just in time for choppers with searchlights to appear. Then they return to the site of Strange’s house, calling for Peter, getting no answer.

Is this the tsunami equivalent of an aftershock? Is that a thing?

Uh-oh.

And that’s the end of the series! Can you believe it? I mean, jeez. Well, there’s an issue of Ultimatum left. Maybe Spider-Man will show up in that. This issue includes a reprint of an interview with Bendis from Booklist, where he talks about a lot of things, but what struck me the most is his mentioning how Superman is America’s greatest heroes, and spends all his days lying to the people he loves and that sucks, which is very interesting. Many years later, Bendis would get to write Superman, and he’d have him realize lying to his loved ones sucks and decide to reveal his secret to the world. Interesting that that was already Bendis’ take in 2009. There’s also a page listing everyone who ever worked on USM (Even the staff of Ultimate Six), wherein Jung Choi is still just called “JC,” 9 years later. Wonder what the deal with that is.
