Bendis! Immonen! Von Grawbager! Ponsor! I am so happy to see them! And look, they’re going to riff on Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends. It’s inevitable. But I don’t think one of those amazing friends had been introduced in the Ultimate Universe yet, so let’s see how this goes.

Of course, it’s not ALL fun, since our gang is dealing with a lot.

Kong knowing Peter’s secret and just giving up on telling anyone is so funny. It’s such a novel situation in superhero comics.

Is there a place to get a corndog not on a stick? The name of this establishment vexes me.

Hey, what’s going on with Liz? There’s so much Argghing going on in this book. We’re not done!

Ok, I thought it would just be a couple Arghs and we’d get going. This was the final Argh. With the Arghing out of the way, Peter and MJ are finishing their school day, commiserating about missing Harry, when Johnny Storm pulls up. Peter freaks about the possibility of people figuring out he’s Spider-Man, but Johnny points out he did briefly go to school there, and MJ is just happy to see him. Johnny actually came to see Liz, who he’s still interested in despite terrifying her last time, but she’s not around. Then, to Peter’s ever-increasing chagrin, Johnny spots Kitty Pryde, who might as well be his coworker (Especially after Ultimate Power).

That’s fun. Very well done.

It’s superhero day at Midtown High!

I know Spider-Man is here, like, every Tuesday, but people are being way too casual about Iceman’s arrival here.

Bobby recognizes Peter, but is shushed quiet. Then Johnny spots Liz and runs over to talk to her. He manages to sweet talk her into maybe giving him another chance, but she also says she’s not feeling well A few feet away, Kitty really lets Bobby have it before finally forgiving him for being mean to her. You know, in some world, this is what X-Men comics were like. The X-Men was such a soap opera at its height, and yet it was all about grownups at the time. The only student at the school was Kitty (And later, Jubilee. And I recently read Rogue was meant to be 18 in the late 80s, which is utterly bonkers to me. But still). Then Bobby delivers a note to Kitty from Wolverine. And in this universe, as in the main one, he was a sort of mentor figure to her, so…

Wonder who Kong’s on the phone with. A fun moment for the gang, tho. I think they deserve one. And so does MJ, who, on the next page, when it is now night, sitting at a bonfire with Peter, says the same. They share a kiss, and we pan to Liza talking to Johnny. And it’s going well until she says “ow.”

Yep. Liz Allen. Mutantphobe. Is a mutant. Now that’s gonna need some therapy!
