Oclair Albert bows out on inks this month, otherwise, same team as last issue. Well, we’re in a hospital room with El Muerto, being looked at by JJJ and Robbie. Very dated, these 2 walking directly into the Spider-Man plot, very old school. Over the splash, Tony Stark is asking Peter Parker what happened in the fight, apparently unaware of Peter’s idiotic new stinger power, despite the implication that the big brains ran a million tests on him when he came back and also the fact that he would’ve seen Morlun’s stabbed up body. Whatever.

Roger Cruz drawing the current and correct Iron Man suit and drawing it well, in the face of all the superstars whiffing it. Hats off, Roger.

Oh, you’ll run tests? Like the ones you already ran and should’ve noticed big bone spikes under his skin with? Meanwhile, at the hospital, El Muerto is waking up, and JJJ is telling him what happened, unaware hat a very silly looking villain in a pee yellow costume is behind him. And elsewhere, Aunt May and Jarvis set out on their date, unaware that they’re being watched by… someone. Who knows? Back at the hospital…

This is El Muerto’s one and only villain, who was naturally slated to appear in the alleged movie, also. El Dorado is about to slice JJJ up, I suppose, when Spider-Man smashes through the window.

“Cheap-jack?”

They keep on fightin’, with El Dorado preposterously saying he can sense the magic in Spider-Man’s defenses. I want to tap out. Meanwhile, Tony Stark is fixing MJ’s broken arm! Haha. Continuity has completely broken down, and it’s all downhill from here. He wants to know how it broke, tho, so… does no one know Morlun was there? What sense does that make? Well, whatever, back at the hospital, El Dorado is stalking Spider-Man, ranting about magic, pointing out that his danger sense isn’t a normal spider thing (Point to him), and that his stingers only reacted to magical threats (Incorrect). Spider-Man is mixing up some kinda potion, but he’s found before he’s done. And then El Muerto is back, mask on and everything, trying to fight, but still weak.

“It doesn’t last long?” Is the premise that his gold suit will… Grow back?

Man oh man. All these comics I chose not to buy in 2006 are really, really proving I was right. Marvel Comics looked at the very 1970s tale of El Muerto & El Dorado and wisely decided to never speak of them again. Sony Pictures decided to try to let them anchor a movie. When that movie was announced, I didn’t even know who El Muerto was. Like, I am obviously a pretty big Spider-Man fan, and they announced their latest desperate stripmining of Spider-Man lore, and I didn’t even know what it was. Truly insane. Well, let’s go see how Spidey’s new suit helps him as an Avenger…
