This month, we get underway with MJ and her journalism pals watching Mysterio’s video. Ultimate Jessica Jones asks if MJ wants to do the piece on it for the school webcast, and she doesn’t see how it’s relevant.

Smooth, MJ! Meanwhile:

Peter is sleeping on his terrible job, and then getting yelled at for same, and then running right into MJ, spilling a drink on her.

The messy teen angst of USM. This feels a liiiiittle familiar, you know, it’s real Peter/MJ/Kitty. But they’re teenagers. Big, dumb, pointless drama is part of the gig. Suddenly, Manhattan is being attacked by some very well-rendered giant spiders. Like, Godzilla-size. Or at least, people think they are. Spider-Man swings over head and sees panic in the streets and cops shooting at nothing and is really confused. He drops down to try to use his new-found friendship with the authorities to ask what’s happening, but they start shooting at him, too.

Really like the look of that last panel. Mysterio is happily carting a buncha gold out of the Federal Reserve Bank, giving voice to Bendis’ really gross penchant for calling things that make him happy “yummy,” when Spider-Man is suddenly attacking him.

People complained about decompression in this era, but he solved it in 3 pages, he was never than smart in any 70s Mysterio adventure.

Despite allowing Humberto Ramos to have a career, comic fans tend to be really judgy about “Cartoony” art. I’m sure plenty of people were up in arms about this run. But I love that last panel. The looseness makes it wackier. Meanwhile, Gwen comes home to find Johnny and the newly arrived Sue Storm arguing on the front lawn. May tells her she doesn’t know what they’re talking about. And then we see Mysterio looking at the news that Spider-Man foiled his plan, accompanied by a picture of him posing with the gold and some cops. He doesn’t look happy.

Aunt May is legit starting a home for troubled teens! How fun is that, tho? What a fresh direction for the book. We will obviously see more about that next issue.
