Looks like Logan’s Spider-Sense is tingling.

I don’t know if this gag is true, but I wouldn’t be surprised. For one, Nick Lowe famously likes silly comics, and for another, he will go on to be the Spider-Man editor who presides over what I think is quite possibly the worst run in ASM history. So, you know, look forward to that! Outside the school, Spiderine skits his way out of the car that fell on him, while inside, the kids are all watching, and someone thinks they recognize that mutant, as Wolver-Man looks on in disgust before running out of the room.

Now in a holding cell, Peter Howlett is allowed his one phone call, and asks the operator to get him Xavier’s school.

Now, me, I think I woulda told them I’m Logan and I need to be bailed out of prison, and let the whole identity swap thing get talked about after, but then, that’s not as funny. He gets tased again for accidentally killing the phone. Meanwhile, James “Logan” Parker makes a way bigger stink about refusing to wear the Spider-Man suit than an X-Man should, but does put on the mask. He figures out how to shoot webs and climb walls, and he’s off. Sort of.

Cut to Peter accepting his prison stay (“At least it’s quiet in here”) when a kid in a Spider-Man mask busts in, trouncing cops, one of whom accidentally shoots Peter-as-Logan in the head. Logan tells Peter how to stick a claw in the lock on his cell, and they run for it.

Who is the optimal villain to show up at this moment in this story?

Of course. Those people are looking up at the X-Men, of course, here to resolve this because we’re almost out of pages. Rogue is on the team now, I don’t think that was true last time we saw them. And Iceman apparently isn’t? UXM is currently the province of Brian K. Vaughan and Stuart Immonen, at this time, a team you’d be hard pressed to beat, and I bought their whole run, but unsurprisingly, I don’t remember it too well. Anyway, the resolution sucks.

Yes, Jean nearly ruined Peter’s life ‘cuz she was mad at Logan. Very cool, Jean!

I referenced JM DeMatteis’ penchant for whiplashing between grim-dark sadness festivals and extremely stupid “comedy” last issue. I feel like these 2 issues would’ve made him smile. Me, less so, but at least they’re over now. Nick Lowe has much to answer for.
