Sharp cover. Much better than the Deodato ones. Big finish, and look, Cap and Iron Man are there. One wonders, why not the whole team? In the material being made that takes place during the 6 months between Avengers Finale and New Avengers 1, Cap and Iron Man wind up doing a lot of things together. I guess it makes sense they’d still teamup, as seen earlier in this series, but why not bring the others? Maybe we;ll see. Well, Spider-Man is in the grip of the Controller, and Crossfire wants him to stay that way in case of trouble. With Corruptor not answering coms, it’s a safe bet the U-Foes got him. So, he quickly orders Roz to tell him where “it” is. The big “it” the U-Foes have been after her for the whole time. “It’s” apparently behind a bookcase.

That Cap nose thing just does not look right. Down in the basement of the Haven building, Mandrill’s just hanging out with those women. I don’t know what his part of the plan was. But Vapor appears, and while female, she’s made of gas, so he can’t affect her. So he runs for it.

Back upstairs, it’s time to find out what “it” is.

A whole hour! Who has the time!?

Ok, this kinda fell apart. If the U-Foes just want to become human, why not just let them, then use the machine for your stated goal? These 2 things are not opposed at all. The U-Foes arrive and pretty handily trounce Crossfire and Controller, the latter tackled out the window by IronClad, the former blasted into the wall by Vector, who demands the McGuffin. And Roz says she destroyed it. Vector throws a tantrum. Down on the street, Controller is nearly unstoppable due to all the people he’s got under his thrall, but then X-Ray blasts Big C unconscious, releasing all his captives. Including Spider-Man.

Our hero rights himself, but fell far enough to run afoul of the 2 U-Foes on the ground. But as they go after him, Cap’s shield flies through X-Ray.

Vector levels the entire building. He’s pretty powerful for such a jobber. Boy, it sure is lucky all the tenants were gathered downstairs, and then ran out when Mandrill and Controller went down.

He better get used to it, he’s an Avenger for nearly 10 years. Spoilers and such. Well, there you have it. Ya know, Iron Man’s more complicated armors can be very hard to draw. Even a lot of the pros are bad at it (Mark Bagley has no idea what to do with them, and John Romita, Jr., who cut his teeth on Iron Man, doesn’t fare too well with the 21st Century suits, either). But even so, that’s a rrrrrrough IM in the last panel. Goodness. But that and Cap’s nose aside, this series was better in every way than all 3 main Spider-Titles while it ran. And to prove it, next post, we’ll see what Spectacular was up to during Breakout. You will not believe it.
